Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop tv Review

In the semi-distant future, bounty hunters have become a major reality. Cowboy Bebop follows the crazy antics of two bounty hunters named Spike Spiegel and Jet Black. Throughout the anime they come across many odd faces of bounties and even some friends.

By the middle of the series, the Bebop - the ship Jet owns as an HQ for his team - is filled not only with Jet and Spike, but Faye Valentine, a beautifully dangerous bounty hunter, and Ed, a crazy 9-year-old tomboy master hacker. Throughout the 26 episodes and one movie (that takes place between episodes 24 and 25) the Bebop crew go through many bounties and crazy adventures just to scrounge around for some type of income to keep them alive.

Bebop is an anime for the people who love comedy mixed with great action and drama.

Story & Characters

Alright it's an older anime but it's one of my favorite anime of all time.

Plot: Cowboy Bebop revolves around a crew of bounty hunters living in the spaceship named Bebop. They are a team of bounty hunters who travel the Solar System trying to apprehend bounties. Jet Black is the owner of the Bebop who has partnered with Spike Spiegel for his diverse combat skills. During their travels, the Bebop ship gained new crew members Ein, Faye, and Edward.

Cowboy bebop is about a small group of bounty hunters that travel the universe seeking out bounties. Often times Spike is left complaining about eating noodles all the time because they are often broke, you would figure being in such a profession you would have money all the time. None of them are heroes, but it seems they play the part just right. I would have to say Edward, being the tomboy, genius, hacker, and possibly insane attitude that suits the anime just right, yet she gets it well from her father which is equally just the same. Faye, always running from a past she cannot remember whereas Spike wishes he could forget. Ein is the loveable pooch that, like the rest of the crew, a throwback and makes up the team and completes it, often accompanying Edward on her adventures. Jet, a long time friend of Spike, has a strong and demanding attitude yet has a weak spot for trying to find peace and often fails with the shenanigans of the rest of the crew.

Even in the movie you can see the firm connection between Spike and the rest of the crew, as they try to save Mars one Halloween Day. Even when Spike has to face a man such as Vincent you could see his determination to win, like he always feel he must.

Art

The art was fantastic and breathtaking. The fight screens were supreme, it was like you were actually in the fighting. When a gun was pointed at the screen, you actually felt the gun was pointed at you and not just towards a world of non-existent beings. Even the flight scenes were outstanding, the space ships and the fly, you actually felt like if you rolled in your seat you might actually make the ship roll as well. I was quite astounded by the movie and the anime, each fight scene was different, not two different movements were used or over used, there was a variety of martial arts, gun play and space flight throughout the show. Even when the bullets go flying by it's as if you can feel the air of them nearly dodging the character.

Sound

The sound, what a beautiful sound. Yoko Kanno did justice to this anime and did it well. Even in the remix (for those that can only obtain bebop in this way) is not lacking. I felt that both Subbed (original) and Dubbed were very well done, it was not whinny like some voices or scratchy for others, like some anime have been known to have. This anime had me hooked by the opening theme, and throughout the anime, each song suited perfectly to the scene, the character, just a background noise in general. Too bad a few of the songs were not able to be played in the movie, because there were just too many to be had, but that goes to show you just how much Yoko Kanno provided to make this anime outstanding. Even the background noises set up the anime just perfect, you could hear the punches and they did not sound as if they were muffled, or even the bullet sounds were not a twang of a sound like some could portray.

Presentation

To say anything less, I would consider this anime a classic, a master piece that I hope, that if you have not seen it, that you would take the time to watch it. There have even been a few that have found it uninteresting and have actually dropped it and not bothered with watching it, that is sad, but that is how opinions and fans are broken and made. It's a slightly dark and sinister feel to it, where, no matter how hard one tries, they can only break even. Towards the end you are actually crying and pleading alongside the characters. The sorrow which flows in the character's hearts actually starts to flow into yours and you can feel their pain greatly. It was like everything was made for this anime and everything this anime had to offer was made for it, nothing was overlooked nor neglected, it was just something I started watching on television one night and was hooked instantly and been addicted to it every since. So remember : You're Gonna Carry That Weight.

I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised that you were able to get us a review so quick, Xuan! No less of a great anime series at that.

You did a good job of keeping it short, but not sparing any detail either. I'd have a tough time keeping a review of such a series so short, because there's just so many things to say about it.

It's also nice to see that you've drawn in some other individuals for commenting! Well done Xuan!

What an inspiring review containing so much valuable information. Certainly, when Spike's sinister nemesis Vicious is present the session takes on an unsettling aura that can make this anime seem somewhat dark as a whole. There are many humorous and more lighthearted moments in the series that, fortunately, nullify the negative effects of Vicious. Overall, I am quite impressed with your well-penned review. Thanks for your insightful perspective and attention to detail.
