Luminous Arc game Review

Story & Playability

the story if existent in something more interesting than a disney movie leaves the player wondering why do care or why can't i make a choice here? you have no control over the story or the plot thought there is an alternate ending for those who have enough time to play it twice. on a positive note it's more of a storyline than FFT or any square enix game for that matter. of course square enix has yet to learn what plot means, especially for FF7, which is quite possibly the worst video game ever made besides halo 2. so it has something for the fact that you do interact with the characters and can get more than one ending even if it is the hard way. the story itself does have twists and turns even if you have no effect on them it does make for a fun first play through.

Graphics

the art is consistent and well done making the game really come to life and be easy to see unlike FFT games where your character is like a few pixels. though the character sprites are not as detailed as knights in the nightmare, few games can compare to knights in the nightmare. since the art style is not unique or particularly amazing i can't say it's the best i've seen but it works well in the gameplay. some of the arrow sprites in the game make it feel like you're in a word processor from the stone age but other than that the interface's art is well done and smooth.

Sound

the music is good but repetitive as there are only 10ish tracks in the game. considering the game only lasts half as long as your average atlus rpg it's not so bad. the tracks however few do capture a good feel for the scenes of the game and don't leave the player wondering where is the music, or going "oh god i wish it would stop". on the whole it's more interesting than final fantasy which has like 2 tracks but not as interesting as strange journey or baldur's gate II shadows of amn, which is the best PC rpg ever made.

Luminous Arc 2 review

The most noteworthy thing about this game and my biggest concern is there is no control over the plot by the main character, you. second i would have to say that the level of customization is 0. each character has a pre-defined set of armor, skills, and stats and all you can do to edit it is give them bigger stat changers and armor. however the game does manage to shine through these significant flaws and seeing as it is a tactical rpg in a pure form, unlike the amazing work of Devil Survivor, so we can accept that it doesn't disappoint compared to FFT A2 or War of the Lions and other such games. however it fails to do anything particularly new other than the engagement system which makes the game feel a little like some kind of harem thing that was annoying. but as a tactical rpg the point of the game is to succeed in its combat system, which is the best i have seen and makes FFT look like etrian odyssey makes devil survivor look like. for those who don't know what i mean by those two games, i mean that FFT, in any of its forms is extremely slow and extremely boring as you trudge through mind numbingly easy battles that take hours. my point is that this game has challenge while going quickly enough to not bore you to death, or just putting the game down for good.

the art style is consistent and well done as is the music which helps bring the world to life. the only last concern is for the second ending you have to wade through all the conversations again. but for those used to american games with no control over the story or customization the game will seem quite special. for SMT fans like myself it seems quite boring and simple as there is no real involvement other than the trick to the final boss.

    "why do care?"

I have to say, I was already asking myself this at the beginning of your review. You by no means have to like every game you play, but bringing up biased beefs your have with ones that aren't even related to what you are reviewing is NEVER a good way to start a review, and it immediately turned me off from anything you might have to say, even if it's valid. Don't wall yourself in to this corner when you review.

However, I DID read the rest of the review, and you've made some valid points below the starting rant. Your opinion is how you judge in your review, but don't forget people have different opinions; you want to try to write a review that is helpful for many types of people, not just the ones that share your preference. For the most part you did do well at listing pros and cons. Just remember to keep the ranting out (especially when it's about other games) and you've got yourself a good review.

Well , Artificial has made his valid point - Your review feels a bit too biased.

Comparison of games is good if done in a friendly way , as Artificial had said , not everyone would feel the same as you. Not all games have an altering storyline , or rather , not a lot of them have such a feature and you can't really expect one franchise to be as good as the other for they have their own unique flavours.

Also , your over-relying on comparison between the various RPG franchises , not all have played the original Final Fantasy VII , not all have played Knights of the NIghtmare , not all have played Final Fantasy : Tactics and not all have played Shin Megami Tensei : Devil Survivor. It is for the best if you made your own points and description , the readers aren't going to bother checking out on the series they have no intention of playing just to make this review form a perfect formula in their mind.

Also , not many games allow the players to have an altering storyline. Such games , at the very minimal , may perhaps have a Dating SIM feature , featuring the character ending up with various heroes or heroines like in Sakura Wars : So long my Love , Shin Megami Tensei , Rune Factory , Agarest : Generations of War whilst others may feature actual deviations in the storyline like Hoshigami , but most games does not offer such a feature , so it's not prudent to slam something just because it does not offer such a feature within it's franchise. For one , most of the Final Fantasy games doesn't even offer such a feature.

Though there are certainly valid points found within the review , the tone of the review and the fact that you've allowed your personal thoughts to sway it so have turned the review into something of a slam more than an actual review.
Like I said , you did make your mark here and there , but it is also marred by expecting it to be as good as the other franchises , not everyone would have the same views as you and the offensive comments may offend... well , fans of the series you have mentioned.

Keep the offensive tone at bay , the comparison to a minimal and make the review more enjoyable as a whole , as well as greater elaboration of the storyline , graphical setting , music setting and you would get yourself a freshly baked review of great enjoyability =w=
