Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 game Review

Story & Playability

The story is simple; The president's daughter is kidnapped by spanish(?) mutant/zombie slaves and our suave hero leon s kennedy comes to her rescue. However, this, being a resident evil story, is of course NOT that simple. I won't spoil it for those who have not played yet (shame on you mongrels) but it gets more complicated after the second chapter. it's also interesting to see how capcom didn't use zombies this time, but instead used brainwashed villagers. whether that's a change for the better or worse is up to the player, though i think it's a fresh change from ZOMBIE ZOMBIE ZOMBIE. The characters are also all charming in their own way, too. Leon delivers these cool (if not cheesy) one-liners that will amuse you. ashley, who i assume is there to make the game more challenging, will leave u wanting to put an axe through the television/ computer. Old faces also reappear, like the ever-slick wesker and the sexy-as-hell ada wong. sublime.

Graphics

The Graphics, though leaving something to be desired, are still pretty damn hot. They fit what's going on and can leave you just wandering the RE4 world for hours. The thought that went into the presentation is also something to be admired , too. for example, in a cutscene involving some guy's death, a button falls off his shirt. then later on in the game, if you zoom into his shirt... wait for it... THE BUTTON IS STILL GONE! no joke, i am for serious. It’s all the little things that make you appreciate the visual bits of RE4, like bullet holes in a painting or little bits of glass or blood on the floor. This not only lets you appreciate the effort that went into the production of this game, but also lets you enjoy looking for these little "easter eggs" throughout the course of the game. So while the graphics are kind of dated (in this day and age of 3d rubbish) and in some places a teeny bit glitchy, the rest- the easter eggs, the cutscenes, the 'splosions made by your HACKS rpg- make it all worth while. gorgeous.

Sound

the sound. In short, it's excellent. Simple scenario: you’re playing as leon, and you’re trekking through a dark corridor. You can hear the distant splashing of a broken tap somewhere in the sewers yonder. You suddenly hear a loud CLANK! Some hideous invisible bug-eyed bug thing closes in on you! You can’t see it, but listen as it closes its jaws in on your leon’s body you drop the controller and let out a scream. You look down and see you’ve totally pissed your pants. Yeah, that’s how intense RE 4 can get. You can hear whether an enemy is close or far away from you. You can hear in detail the racist spanish slurs (UNFORASTERO!!!) the villagers scream at you. you can TELL if if the person bellowing at you is male or female. The sound helps the game to be the scary, "holy crap wtf just happened" kind of game that it is. And the background music- oh lordy. It's beautiful. just beautiful.

Fun

Well im not sure about the other guys who bought this game, but i enjoyed it a helluva lot more than i enjoyed the DS version of Resident Evil. it challenges conventions started by previous games, it experiments, it has Ada Wong and Albert Wesker in it. i guess there are a few issues with the cheesy dialogue, the screwed up physics of the game (don't remember the last time a jet-ski jumped THAT high) and ashley @#$%ing graham, but what it does, it does well. Anyone who's a fan of the franchise will be pleased, and some will even go back and play it over and over again, just to make sure they've unlocked every single little weapon, item, treasure and outfit. They'll also play "the Mercenaries" minigame which is so damn fun. Anyone who's an Ada Wong zealot (you know you love her) will play all of her "mini stories," and then watch the cutscenes in all their splendour. And if that isn't enough for you, well you can play your sissy games, and I shall play some more resident evil 4.

While it's nice to see new reviews, I'd highly recommend not swearing in your review. Mainly because it detracts from the review itself. While I like that you've got with a non-professional take on it, for giving it such a high score you really don't touch on a lot of the key points that would deem it as such. I've played RE 4 numerous times so I can understand why it's scored so high, but considering the game is over five years old now I'd like to see a little more justification under graphics. Also, while I understand with the plot twists that you cannot cover much on the story, perhaps you could get a bit more in depth with some of the characters and the setting.

    kk thanks for the tips=]

Well , Cyanide has spoke of the negative points in the review , so I'd like to offer some pointers as well.
I'd try not to repeat anything he said.

For your storyline review , remember that people who reads reviews are generally seperated into a few major groups.
Critics , fellow Reviewers , those who had played/watched the franchise before and those who did not.
So it IS slightly offensive and brings down the mood of the reader who happens to be the latter at the words "shame on you mongrels".
It is clearly a joke , but not one which would bring a positive effect on every reader.

Also , while singing hymns of praises to the franchise , it is best if you provide some criticism as well. Of course , not too much of a heavy dose of it to make you look like a troll , nor too little of it to make your review look unreliable.
It is also best that you explain the franchise as in itself and not solely the characters alone.
Certainly , Ada's a chick , Wesker's a pimp and Leon's simply cool , but restraint is neccessary in reviews.

There are it's fatal flaws , but personally , I enjoy the "spirit and enthusiasm" found in the review , but like Cyanide said , cut down on the profanities :P

Haha, my apologies if I came across as so negative. I meant the non-professional point as a compliment, because it is rather nice to see things told in that perspective. It reminds me of word-of-mouth advertisement of a product. Hopefully this won't be the last review we see from you, Luggernaut.

EDIT : I'm not sure why it changed your name when I posted, but I fixed it.
