School Days tv Review

It all started when Makoto first laid eyes on the beautiful but timid Kotonoha. He never had the guts to tell her that he was interested, but would instead watch her at school and on the train in silence, being happy with just that.

However, a rather outspoken girl named Sekai finds out about his crush after seeing Kotonoha's picture is Makoto's cell phone wallpaper. After teasing him, she decides to help the two get together. At first, her attempts end up in success, and the three become close enough that Kotonoha learns of and accepts Makoto's feelings.

...Of course, feelings start to change, which cause not only these three, but their classmates as well, to keep crossing the lines between love, lust, friendship, hatred, jealousy, and life and death.

Story & Characters

School Days the anime series was based on the hentai visual novel developed by Overflow. It also has OVAs too but that won’t be covered here.

I started watching this anime when I saw the cover and was expecting a slice of life and romance kind of anime. It started out to be fun and light hearted with Makoto, Kotonoha and Sekai getting along and being the main protagonist himself he chases after the girl he likes and being chased too. The story revolves around the love triangle of these three people. Sekai was guilty of starting this love triangle by helping Makoto out with getting his dream girl but then has feelings for him. Being the harem anime every girl in the anime including the minor characters fall for Makoto’s charm and is unable to resist his advances. As the story progresses the mood get darker and Makoto exposes that he cannot control his sexual urges and cheat on every girl he get his hands on. The emotional drama played out really well. Kotonoha his former girlfriend finds out about him cheating but refuses to stop clinging onto him is definitely an unrealistic element in the story but nonetheless it adds to the ever evolving drama that has yet to come. It is in the genre of psychological horror for the reason of its twisted ending. The girls seemed too obsessed over Makoto and their obsession drives them to do all sort of extreme things. It just goes to show that sometimes you can’t take love too seriously.

This is not your normal anime to watch but I still recommend it. I give it a 6 because the ending left a bad taste.

Art

The art is very splendid and well done. The girls are nicely drawn and very cute. The scenery is like eye candy. The animation is consistent and does not loose its quality over each episodes like I seen with other series.

I love the outfit for school days that are typical of anime of this genre such as the cute maid outfit, school uniform, and very attractive and cute girls.

The stylishness of the animation is very eye catching. It is only fair that I give it a 9. If there is one thing to like about School Days it is the animation and the art.

Sound

The music opening is catchy and innocent but don't be fooled by it. It is appropriate for the early episodes. I like the ending theme to it as well it helps to blend the anime a little. I particularly like the opening music so I will give it a 7.

Here is the opening theme song

Presentation

The game series of school days contain about 20 endings in which there are 3 bad endings. The producers of the show I think wanted to create shock value to their anime series and so included some bizzare element in the ending of the story. You will find in this series that all the characters are not so likeable and as you go you might hate them especially the protagonist.

The writer and producers of this show if they really intended did portray the characters in a rather negative and untypical fashion where they are totally inconsiderate towards each other. I wonder how Makoto can go on even when the girls find out about his promiscuous behavior. Such a typical playboy attitude certainly was a good build up on the element of the plot.

The cell phone is like a key feature to the anime as it plays a role in getting the characters to connect and certainly helps out with the story element of the series.

The theme is kind of a bit here and there. Friendship, harem, romance, and psychological horror are not consistent throughout the story. It give it a 6.

Good review , your able to tune down the "personal-hate" for the series and understand that it is intentional that the developers had turned this story "bad in an intentional way"
But you should tune down the spoilers for the Story Review a bit.

Either way , Makoto would stay at the place of "the most hated Anime protaginist" of all time without a doubt XD

Considering that from a technical point of view, this series can rake a few points, it still can't make up for the fact that the plot is twisted in a way that is just disgusting.

I definitely agree with that statement!
Anyway if you want a less gore ending, then try the manga.
