Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi tv Review

Story & Characters

Story Introduction
Ookami Ryoko , a female student of Otogi High School , is also part of the Otogi Bank , which takes on requests in return for favours.
Ryoko is known to be fierce and tough , but despite that , Morino Ryoshi , despite his own phobia of being noticed by people , came out to confess to her , knowing what she is truly like inside.
He was rejected , but he soon joined the Otogi Bank due to the skills he picked up as a hunter and is able to get to know more about Ryoko.

Terms Sypnosis

Otogi Bank
Otogi Bank is a small group under the direct control of the Director who runs the Otogi High School.
Essentially , the Otogi runs according to it's motto "Help each other" and does requests from people both inside and outside the school in return for "loans" which is paid back in various ways.

Character Sypnosis ( Main Characters )

Morino Ryoushi
Morino Ryoushi , a fellow classmate of Ookami and he had lived most of his childhood in the mountains as a hunter.
He confessed to Ookami and joined the Otogi Bank due to his skills in following people.
He is also afraid to be seen by others.

Personality
Ryoushi is , well , as they say , a total bum.
He don't like being stared at and have a fairly weak personality.
However , he is extremely devoted to Ookami and in times of need , he can become very reliable and even cool.

Ookami Ryouko
Ryouko is usually seen as a delinquent due to her aggressive behaviour and how she shuns people away.
She is also part of the Otogi Bank and does most of the fighting with her Neko Neko Knuckes which is often upgraded according to the situation for close quarter combat.

Personality
Despite her strong front , she is very weak and fragile deep down and does indeed behave somewhat like a Tsundere.
She is described to being not very honest with how she really feels and refuses to peel of the fake mask she puts up so she doesn't have to end up relying on others , but she really wants to find a person to rely on despite her actions.

Akai Ringo
A typical loli who is oft described as the "Little Red Riding Hood".
Indeed , she does wear a red cloak and carry a basket with her most of the time.
She is often seen to be hanging out with Ookami.

Personality
Despite her innocent appearance , Ringo is very sharp and can be very frightening at times.
She is not ill natured , but she does seem to enjoy teasing Ookami at times and can be fairly manipulative as well.
However , she does care a lot for Ookami and she can be considered her best friend.

Kiriki Lizst
The President of the Otogi Bank.
He is described as a lazy bum who hardly works but he can be seen doing "behind the scenes" work once in a while.
He is also skilled in disguising himself , either as a man or a woman.

Personality
For a President , his certainly very relaxed about things.
He appears calm even in critical situations , but there is a fairly childish side to him as well despite his calm and intellectual demanour.

Kiriki Alice
She is Lizst's cousin and the secretary of the Otogi Bank.
She is often seen doing most of the work that Lizst doesn't do.

Personality
Well , her appearance does just about reflect her personality. ( To be honest , she kinda resembles that one particular Gundam Meister in Gundam 00 XD )
She is fairly strict and serious , but not suffocatingly so.

Urashima Taro
Despite his rare appearances and flirty attitude , he is shown to be a reliable fighter when the time calls for it.
He is also often followed by Otohime.

Personality
His flirty and shows very little interest in guys.
Though when he turns into his "gentleman mode" , he will become a true man and save even guys for a change.
Also , despite him messing around with other girls , he does care for Otohime.

Ryugu Otohime
A girl who was described to have a "striking figure" and is said to be following Taro wherever he goes.
Otohime also tends to call Taro as "Taro-sama" and often drags him away from other girls and does something odd to him after that which changes his personality for a moment.

Personality
Otohime is blindingly devoted to Taro and can be considered somewhat clingy.
She treats him well , even if she caught him flirting , but she can turn fairly "frightening" when she directs her displeasure at the people she dislikes.

Tsurugaya Otsu
She is something like the maid of the Otogi Bank and is often found sweeping in a light mood around the area.
She is also very obssessed in returning favours.

Personality
Tsurugaya is extremely hard working and even devoted in returning any favours she owes due to her past.
She seems to care little about herself and does all she can to return a favour , so much so that it may turn out dangerous for herself.

Majolica le Fay
More oftenly known as "Majou" and described as the "Mad scientist" of the Otogi Bank.
She have a fairly rabbit-like appearance to her and she is often seen licking a lollipop.
She's also the one who makes some of the equipment , such as the Neko Neko Knuckles for Ookami.

Personality
Mad would be a rather strong word to describe her. She's more or less....odd.
She spins up some very strange equipment and costumes at times and I guess she's the type of character that does things on her own pace.

Narrator
The ol' mighty mysterious voice that emits out of no where and everywhere.
She narrates the events that happens and pulls off a punchline once in a while.
Oh , she also tends to point out how flat chested our heroines are.

Story Overview
Well , the story's not exactly perfect to be honest.
Since some of the characters have a "mini-plot" per few episodes , their definitely going to be short.
They are certainly well constructed , but there are things that goes amiss at times and sometimes , comedic effects at the wrong timing sorta killed the atmosphere in some scenes , which would've gone better if not for the sudden outburst.
However , I must admit that the concept is fairly interesting.

Each of the characters are actually based off fairy tale characters, Ringo is obviously Little Red Riding Hood but instead of being "sweet and innocent" , she's rather twisted to be honest.
In short , it is also interesting to see how each of the characters bears traits from what their adapted from , but also having a set of original personality that literally deviates from what they were adapted from.
It is also interesting to see how the male lead changes over time. From a total wimp , to a wimp with a manly side to him. He may come off as the typical Shonen character who wants to protect everything around him , but this particular character only turns bad as* for the girl he loves.

Moving back to the storyline , the story is have a rather strong contrast to it at times.
It is set in a "fairy tale" like setting , where the story , in general , is bright , happy and vibrant.
But there are times when things get a bit "Ecchi" or dark , with some characters with a twisted mindset within it.
I suppose you can call this an Anime Fairy Tale with romance , comedy , fan services and a twist.

Art

Artwork Review
Hmm...I must admit that the artwork is actually pretty unique.
It does really put up a good cover on the vibrant and bright setting of the Anime , but it is also fairly interesting to see how dark things can get when characters like Ringo starts smiling away eerily and how everything suddenly turned from "bright and vibrant" to "dark and twisted" in a matter of seconds without causing much bumps here and there.
Though the outlines are fairly jagged and pale here and there , and not being as sharp as they ought to be.
The shadowing and lightning , as well as colouring , may not be perfect as with it's fellow Anime and the color tone seems to be somewhat lacking , making the whole thing look slightly "cartoonish" if I have to put it bluntly , but still , it fits with the theme , no?
However , I am very , very impressed with the physics of the characters.

The movement of the characters in combat is fairly fluent and somewhat cool at the same time and it's pretty interesting to see the slow motion effect on the characters before they pull out their next punch ( Or kick ) .

As for the Opening Cinematics , I kinda like how they set it to be as though the audience is viewing things from a "storybook" sort of theme to it and slowly moving on to the typical sort of Opening which features random scenes thrown together to make it look good.
The very beginning of it is what really sets the Opening apart from typical Anime Openings.

As for the Ending Theme , well , I'm under the impression that it is adapted from a Mario game of sorts. Not exactly that unpleasent , but not exactly worth sitting through for either.

Sound

Music Review
I can't really say that I like the music all too much.
The Opening is actually good , but the problem is the Ending Theme , which is somewhat similar to SNES style music with a bit of modernization to it.
It certainly does play out with the Ending Cinematics well , but it doesn't really make the audience sit through the ending credits so those who watch it Live may have to suffer for one minute or so before they can watch the Epilogue of each Episode.

As for Background Music , it only really starts to kick in as the Anime is about to reach it's conclusive episodes. I can't say that their remarkable , but they do boost the mood by the slightest.

Presentation

This is a Review of Ookami San

Well , I guess this Anime is far from perfect , but considering it's flaws , it's still strangely attractive and addictive to a certain extence.
The storyline's puncutated with anti-climatic jokes that kicks in at the wrong time , or mild events that doesn't really set up a proper mood for the audience , but it have it's fair share of proper character set ups and background , as well as a cast of unique characters and personalities. ( Well , we have a evil loli in here...How many times have we seen a loli that smiles so eerily? )
In some ways , it's very much like a typical Shonen Romance , though it is spiced up with the fairy tale like theme with a bit of a twist to it , as well as a narrator "character" which is pretty much unseen in any Anime I have seen so far.
Not exactly the best of what I've seen , but it is still definitely a "must try".

Overall ( Others )

Age Recommendation : 13+

Genre : Comedy , Romance , Action (Mild) , Slice of Life (Mild)

Romance
The Romance part of the Anime isn't really too entertaining yet fairly warming at the same time.
It's something like a Shonen Romance , except with a strong perspective in a girl's point of view with some actual consideration to how a girl really feels.
For once , we have a male main lead that confesses despite being a bum right off the bat and the female main lead is hestitating due to her past so it doesn't make it as annoying as other romance Anime that drags the whole crap to the end of the Anime.
It is also fairly interesting to see how the main lead changes for the girl he loves and how the female main lead slowly opens herself so she can accept another relationship.

Comedy
Not exactly the best of laughs , I didn't even break a grin.
However , this Anime is fairly bright , somewhat downright ridiculous and just about the levels of amusing.
Either way , comedy comes in all type , shape and size in this so be prepared XD

Fan Service
...Well , for one thing , fan service is displayed in a fairly "innocent" way I presume.
Nothing too extravaggent is shown but there are still some "boing" and "Kyah!" once in a while to kill off the male audiences...I mean , spice things up for the male audiences.
Not that the girls don't get their fair share , sometimes the male characters turn fairly bad as* at times.
