Gantz ova Review
High school student Kei Kurono meets up with childhood friend Kato Masaru one day by chance encounter. As the two are in the subway chatting, Kato notices a homeless man on the subway train tracks. Kato goes down on to the tracks to move the man off the tracks and persuades Kei to help. But soon after helping the man, they are hit by a subway train and killed...
Or maybe not. Immediately after being hit by the train, the two suddenly find themselves in an apartment from which they can't leave, along with some other people who were also in some near death experience. In this apartment there is also a black sphere called Gantz. Kei and the others have to obey Gantz's rules if they want to live. They have to participate in missions in which the objective is to eliminate aliens. But who or what are these aliens? are Kei, Kato and the others alive or dead?Written by boojitsu.Story & Playability
This is my first review, sooooo... yeaah.
I'm just going to jump into this.
Gantz is Bad, very Bad, But, despite this, I love this show. Why would i love a show like this? We'll get there.
First lets start with the shows weak point. Plot, let me explain the plot. We have our 3 protagonists, Kei, Kato, and
for the first season (and a small part of the second season) Kishimoto. All three characters, as well as the stock
characters (who we are supposed to feel concern for after they die) are transported to a room right when they die. In
this room they seem perfectly fine, no injuries or anything. They are then told to go kill some aliens, there are some
cool weapons, and the alien killing runs by a points system, but that's really it. I can say the first 2 or 3
episodes are very strong, and the last 5 episodes (note, I'm reviewing season 1 and 2) are spectacular, but as you
will see, the story holds up about as much meaning as a Disney channel sitcom. How ever, the show gives us a fun view
into a very nihilistic, and sadistic world, leaving us with a very "the world is rotten" feeling. well, the
story is the weak point... other than what is said above, the story can put simply as this. Teens die, Teens go to wierd
room, "teens fight aliens, almost everyone dies, repeat, later on, sex is added to spice things up, but it does not
work.

Graphics
The strong point, lots of cool fluid action scenes, when there is any, most actions sequences go as such: Stand point
guns, Hesitate, hesitate, hesitate, hesitate, fire, miss, hesitate, someone is killed, hesitate, hesitate, everyone but
the main cast dies, hhhhheeeeessssiiiiitttttaaaatttttteeeeeee, >yawn< kill, kill, aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnd GORE-FEST,
game ove- wait, new challenger, lets stretch this another episode...
it gets old, and it gets boring, Why am i saying this here? because the animation make it boring, they don't even
move around or anything during all this, they stand there, saving the budget, but when the violence gets going,
wohohohoooo, another problem, the scan transporter that was so cool looking in the manga, is quite choppy in the anime,
but imagine what kind of money that would take, so whatever.
The show takes advantage of 3-D landscapes a lot, but they always look cool at night, and the lighting is quite
cinematic, and one other praise... while it makes the story even trashier and less appealing, the sex is very well
animated, (goddammit, Japan) Boobs bounce beautifully, and... that's as far as i will go. The character's
looks are great.
The gore is the best animated aspect, Just see for yourself

Sound
The opening song is cool, a kind of fun upbeat jap-hop (is that offensive?) song about kickin ass through hell, the
ending song is something about losing innocence or something of that sort.
The shows background music goes from exciting "John Williams sounding" music to 80's sounding heavy
metal, this fits the show... I guess.
Japanese voice cast does a great job with a B-movie script, the emotions are well conveyed, and you really come to some sort of connection with all the characters due to their voices....
the English Voice cast, oh, man, just aren't that good.
Sound effects are cool, nothing amazing. pretty average

Fun
Gantz is supposed to be an empty, almost nihilistic view of humanity, and is better thought of as one of those midnight movie of old, its classic, its gory, its sexy, its really sadistic, and it should get a 3 or 4... but due to its amazing feel, its crappy script, and far-fetched ideas, as well as several weird hentai scenes, this anime is ... well... so bad, that it is good.

I have to say the primary reason why the anime version of Gantz is terrible is because the anime only covers the first part of the story. By the time you get close to the end of the anime, thats when alot of differences are made known. Aside from the fact that there's 3 parts to Gantz, they changed alot of the story by the time you got half way through the anime. Reason for this was to cut it down to a 26 episode series. Alot of it would've made better sense and flow alot better had it been allowed to go several seasons and stay mostly true to the main story (not changing characters and plot elements). If you want a better Gantz fix, you're better off reading the manga.
I like the review. Too bad you couldn't write more but thats to be expected considering the anime you're reviewing.
