On Daisuke Niwa's Fourteenth birthday, he decides to confront his crush, Risa Harada, with a love letter, although backing away from doing so at the very last moment. Since being young enough to train, Niwa has been training and practicing under his grandfathers observation although he not knowing himself what it was for. On Niwa's fourteenth birthday, he is surprised by himself transforming into the legendary Phantom Thief Dark, who's mission is to steal precious arts. Niwa must now fight his feelings for the one he truly loves while also being confronted by the terrible dangers of being the new host of Dark. Also,at the same time of keeping his mind appon these current complications, he is also being hunted down by his very own classmate,Hiwatari Satoshi, who vows to capture The Phantom Thief Dark and lock him up for his sins.

This adventure runs across in what seems like a European type city, where action takes place with each corner you turn.

Artificats / Artworks - In each Artwork and artifact lies the wish of the creator and the endless desires and wishes of those who have seen it.These mixed emotions would result in them coming to life or be cursed so it is the Phantom Thief's job to find them and steal them.

Phantom Thief - A well known legendary thief who steals great artifacts and is said to be winged (He IS winged.) He often sends advance notes as though to tease the police before setting off to do his work at night.

Tamer - Their the host of the Phantom Thief and it's "other self".

Characters Overview :

Daisuke Niwa - A 14 year old kid who tried to confess to his crush but got rejected.He later found out that his family bloodline causes the males to be the famous Phantom Thief.Daisuke is extremely reluctant at first but have no choice but to give in to this situation.His like your...say..typical school kid except he have some pretty astonishing athelic and aerobic abilities.His also fairly good natured though his also somewhat emotionally wimpy to a certain extent.

Dark - The Alter Ego of Daisuke.Well,his not really an Alter Ego since his a completely different person who lives inside Daisuke.Both of them will switch sides when they got too close to someone they love.Dark loves to tease Daisuki and he have a somewhat flirty attitude but his actually a somewhat good natured character.He is unable to sprout wings out of no where so he uses Wiz as a catalyst to be his wings for a moment or two.His adept at magic and seems to use his feathers as his weapon.The awkward thing is,whenever they transform,they wear the same clothes.Oh yeah...Dark is also the legendary Phantom Thief whose job is to steal Cursed Artifacts and break their Curses.

Wiz - A household pet of the Niwa family and also Dark's sprite / familiar.Wiz looks like a rabbit in some sense.It also have a incredibly huge appetite and Dark also have the ability to call Wiz to him no matter where it is.

Satoshi Hiwatari - A extremely intellgient kid whose the same age as Daisuke.In fact,Hiwatari graduated from a higher degree of studies a long time ago but he joined Daisuke's school to know how being a 14 year old is being like.His also one of the top ranking officers of the police force and is often the one that stands in Dark's way before he got his artifact.He wants to achieve something on his own and he refuses to let Krad out,knowing that he will do something bad and against his will so he suffers constantly as he attempts to squash his Alter ego inwards.Hiwatari isn't a villain to be honest.

Krad - Alter ego of Hiwatari and the "other-self" of Dark.Despite the appearance of Dark as the evil manifestation and Krad as the good manifestation due to their overall design and coloring,Krad is in fact a "wolf in a sheep's clothing." He often tortures Hiwatari as he tries to come out and it seems that Krad can come out at will but Hiwatari's strong will power often hampers his abilities.Krad,oddly enough,is able to sprout wings instantly unlike Dark and changes his clothes immediately to his own rather than that of his Host.He have abilties to match Dark's and probably surpasses him but Hiwatari always managed to hamper their battles by regaining the control of his body temporarily.Krad is also a cruel being as he doesn't care for the life nor well being of his Host.

Risa Harada - Daisuke's crush.She is a fairly annoying character to be honest.She have a interest in those...say.."tall and cool" sort of guys so she quite literally fell in love with Dark.They had a chance to meet but Dark simply treated her as a replacement for her Grandmother,the one Dark truly like a long time ago.Risa often did unneccessary stunts that gets into the way of Dark's job just to meet him so hell...she annoys me.

Riku Harada - Twin sister of Risa but their no where alike.Risa is a typical dreamy sort of girl whereas Riku is much more serious and tomboyish and realistic.She often bicker with her sister due to their different perception of things.She is also much more aggressive and can be quite scary at times XD Oddly enough,Risa takes a train to school while Riku takes a bike.Riku is also much more athletic compared to her sister and values their past more than her sister.

Emiko Niwa - Daisuke's mum.She is upset about her gender when she was young because she can't be the Phantom Thief (Phantom Thieves can only be males.Makes sense since Dark is a male himself.) so she got really obsessed about having a male son so she pretty much scared off all those who are secretly admiring her. (She IS very popular in her school days,much to Daisuke's disblief XD ) However,Emiko and Daisuke's father ended up getting married after a sequence of events.

Kosuke Niwa - Kosuke left on a journey when Daisuke was very young.He came back later (With mouthstache and a beard.) and is revealed that he is researching into the matters of the Artifacts.Kosuke is also a caring father and husband.He also adopted Emiko's surname rather than Emiko adopting HIS surname because Emiko wanted to keep the surname of the Niwa alive as only those of the Niwa heritage can be Phantom Thieves.

Daiki Niwa - The gramps of the Niwa family.He is also the previous Phantom Thief and bears a heavy resemblance to his grandson. (When he was young.) Daiki also have a somewhat eccentric attitude and trains Daisuke to be the next Phantom Thief.

Towa - She appears to assist Daisuke in one of the episodes.She later became a resident of his household and she takes care of the household chores in the family.

Kei Hiwatari - Satoshi's adoptive father and top ranking officer of the police force.Despite his "kindly" looking attitude to others,his actually a shrewd and ruthless man.

Rio Hikari (Manga Only) - The true mother of Satoshi.

Argentine - A strange kid who popped out of no where and abducted Risa once before.

Mio Hio (Anime Only) - A girl who seems to be a transfer student from America but her background is more complex than that.

Takeshi Saehara - An enthusiastic reporter of the school. (His father is apparently in the police force.) He goes around and gives the latest news to students (Sometimes in exchange of copying homework and stuff like that.) and he seems to understand most of the student's personality to a certain extent.

Keiji Saga (Manga Only) - A film producer whose desperate to publicize Dark.

Overall :
A fairly interesting plot that's worth watching to a certain extent.As the plot progresses you would see Daisuke's change of heart and each character's past and wishes.It also gets somewhat emotional 'round the end of the plot and is a decent Anime / Manga to add to your collection.

Art

Artwork Review :
I guess it's likeable.I somewhat like the female student outfits.Krad and Dark's design are pretty good and I like their wings,their extremely well drawn.

Significant Character Designs :

Krad - Basically angelic and handsome looking.Either way,he have long blonde hair and he wears robes that are pure white with gold trimmings and large white angelic wings.

Dark - Well,he doesn't change into a costume of his own when he transforms so if Daisuke is wearing a school uniform,he wears it as well.His wings are similar to that of Krad's except it's black.He also uses a single feather for combat like Krad but otherwise he uses his fists or palm to cast magic.

Wiz - A really kawaii rabbit-like creature.It's tail is long and it's ears are lopsided...the unbearable cuteness.

Towa - Early on,she wears something that makes her look like a witch.Later she wears the typical Maid's Uniform.

Daisuke's voice acting is rather plain but the other characers' voice acting are pretty good.

Overall :
A fairly enjoyable series with some humor content and a fairly enjoyable plot.Though not interesting enough to tickle one's senses,it's still worth watching.
