When his parents are transferred overseas, Aizawa Yuuichi is forced to move in with his cousin, Nayuki, who he hasn't seen for 7 years. All his memories of the time he had spent there in the past have faded, but with a series of encounters starting on the first day, his memories slowly start returning ... along with the reason he lost them in the first place.

Story & Characters

I'm writing the 2006 version. (Hmm..I'm pretty sure there is a 2002 version.)

Main Characters Overview:

Yuichi Aizawa - The main character of Kanon. (Oddly enough,he looks like the main character of The Melacholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) Either way,he is friendly and outgoing and has the tendency to make jokes.He moved into the city as he is a newly transfered student for High School and lived with his cousin, Nayuki. However, he also came to this city 7 years ago. However,he cannot remember anything 7 years ago but alot happened back then.... He is also very loyal to his friends and is willing to do alot for them. ( Note: His also apparently afraid of heights ) And hell,you just have to be fustrated with this guy however.He gets into a close relationship with some girls and suddenly they appear as friends after that event which caused them to be closer. His also strong in terms of his personality and he doesn't break down easily.

Ayu Tsukimiya - Deja vu....I'm seeing a smaller version of Nagisa running around. But her personality is completely different. Ayu is immature and child-like ( Even her appearance is loli ) But she is in fact 17 like Yuichi. However,her appearance is Supernatural (As to be expected of a KEY Anime ) and she is connected to Yuichi's past as well. Apparently she enjoys eating taiyaki and says "Ugu..." whenever she's upset ( Yuichi loves teasing her )

Nayuki Minase - Cousin of Yuichi ( Apparently on the mother's side since the surname is different ) She also likes Yuichi ( Hmm...I'm not sure but apparently it's either the First Cousins or Cousins on the mother's side can have such relationships and what not ) She's also an athlete despite being a some what air-headed person. ( Understatement,she runs really fast.She's the Captain of the Tracks team ) She is also fond of strawberries ( She's pretty much addicted to it ) and animals ( Despite being allergic to cats she's still desperate to cuddle them... ) . She have waist length violet hair in case your interested... Oh yeah,she is also a heavy sleeper. She filled her room with alarm clocks but it hardly have any effect. If she's really tired she can even sleep standing up and she's abit "not right in the head" when she's sleepy.

Makoto Sawatari - A ginger / blonde haired girl who appeared out of no where just to "attack" Yuichi. ( She failed horribly ) Either way,due to a combination of events she later lived with the Minase family and Yuichi. However , her appearance was also supernatural and will result in a depressing end. She is also unable to remember her past but it is linked to Yuichi's past... ( Again...the rules... ) She later adopts a cat called Piro which she places on her head later everyday. After being exposed to Manga and Pork Bun ( Sorry if I offended you with the word pork :P I know some religions cannot eat it and all ) she became addicted to it. For some reason she also hates Yuichi and tends to try to pull some pranks on him but Yuichi literally "deflects" the pranks back to her ( She ends up suffering instead :P ) She also have a very bright and cheerful personality but she says " Auu... " when upset ( ...there is a reason for this behaviour...)

Shiori Misaka - A first year who doesn't seem to go to school. She says it's "common cold" whenever Yuichi asks her but it is apparently something more severe...She also carries alot of medicine around her due to her illness. She also dreams of building a Snowman 10 M tall when she was young and enjoys eating ice-cream.She is also the younger sister of Kaori Misaka but there is something odd going on between them due to her illness... ( I guess I can't give out spoilers... )

Mai Kawasumi - Deja Vu...again...she reminds me alot of Shana of Shakugan no Shana (As in appearance) She hardly talks and is good friends with Sayuri and later, Yuichi. Apparently her past is linked with Yuichi's as well. She is also apparently fighting against some "demons" which appear in the school at night. Yuichi later tries to help her. ( You get the nostalgic feeling when Mai calls Yuchi if you watched Shakugan no Shana. Yuchi sounds alot like Yuji after all ) She also wields a Nodachi / Katana to fight against these demons ( These "demons" ...Well,let's just say their not violent spirits but something else.Watch the Anime to know what! ) She is also a excellent dancer. Her emotions are also cold due to her past so don't judge her with the almighty word "emo" when you see her o.0 Either way,she is one of my favourite characters in Kanon. She have long black-bluish hair ( The blue tone is so faint ) that is waist length.

Side Characters Overview:

Akiko Minase - Mother of Nayuki and she is very kind and an excellent cook. ( However,her "special" jam is notorious. Even though the characters never say anything about it to her,the special jam tastes absolutely horrible. ) She looks really young as well and she agrees to anything very easily. It is unknown what she work as,however.

Sayuri Kurata - Described as a really beautiful girl. Her cooking skills are even better than Akiko's . She is the only friend of Mai (Until Yuichi befriends them) whom she met some time ago. (Note that Mai and Sayuri are older than Yuichi) She is kind and caring and helps Mai out whenever she can but she describes it as she is the one getting helped out instead.Sayuri and Mai eats their "bento" at the floor that leads to the balcony.She also tends to say "A-hahaha" and she also came from a rich family.However,she also had troubles of her own...

Kaori Misaka - As I said,she is Shirio's sister. Kitagawa have a crush on her but she reacts coldly towards him but for some reason she still makes him carry stuff for her.

Mishio Amanao - A character that only appeared for a few episodes.She appeared pretty much out of no where and warned Yuichi about Makoto and told him not to be too close to her. It seems she suffered a similar event... ( Again,spoilers rule )

Jun Kitagawa - Deja vu...This guy looks exactly like Sunohara of Clannad. Even the level of idiocy is about the same. Either way,he is still a good friend and helped out Mai when she was caught by the Student Council for breaking windows ( Not exactly Mai's fault... ) Either way, he occasionaly becomes Kaori's porter,carrying stuff for her left and right and his affection for her is usually turned away. ( Usually with comical consequences) Either way,this guy still flirts quite a bit.

Kuze - The annoying Student Council President. Either way,he finds any possible opportunity to throw Mai out of the school. Otherwise,his a minor charcter.

Piroshiki - The cat Makoto adopted. It's named by Yuichi ( After a debate of choosing multiple names and all ) and Makoto finds "Piro" a name that is kawaii and all and she accepts the name unwittingly. ( It is later revealed that Piroshiki is a meat bun of some sort in Russia. )

Matoko Sawatari - The other and real Matoko. She is a woman Yuichi idolised (Or rather,is fond of 7 years ago) There is a reason why I said "real". Again,go watch the Anime or play the Visual Novel to know why.

Overall :

Not much deaths. There is only 1 deaths so far but it still is a pretty depressing Anime. Either way,it have a very interesting storyline and is more bent towards supernatural and fantasy stuff than Clannad or AIR, the other similar animations made by KEY. Again,you would be one cold blooded beast if you aren't close to tears at least once. Probably for those who like the genre of Tragedy,Romance and Harem.Though it's not really Harem...Oh yeah,it also have Comedy.Again,I am pissed off that the girls I like isn't being picked by the main character.Ahh well.

If you watched certain Animes you would find some characters oddly familiar. (Especially Clannad...) Either way,I have to say that the character designs are pretty good. Clannad-ish in some sense.

Music Review:
Well,I can't say I love the Opening. I don't dislike it either,however. The Music in the scenes is quite good.

Voice Review:
Again, I don't have much to criticise for the voices. The immature charactes sound as immature as they are. In short,the voices fit perfectly into their personality.

Presentation

Overall:
It is quite enjoyable. Amongst AIR,Clannad and Kanon,Kanon have the most humor content. However , there isn't any bonus content...which really annoys me. In the Visual Novel there are various Arcs ( Different progression of the storyline ) and I was fairly surprised that they didn't make special episodes for it. ( I was looking forward to a Mai & Nayuki episode :( ) Either way,KEY swung another tragic tale in our faces so brace yourselves :D But AIR was the most tragic so far.Clannad the least and Kanon is somewhere in the middle.

Trivia:
-Yeah I know you might be tired of hearing this but...There is a Visual Novel on this.One with Ecchi content and another without it.
-There is a Manga Version (It's worth to skim through)
-If you want to,you can go take a look at the older version.Though I doubt you would want to ( Kanon 2002 )
-There is a Drama CD set for it...though I'm not sure what a Drama CD is.
-Bookworms out there...there is a Light Novel for it.
