Random and demented, this OVA focuses on Poemi Watanabe, who lands on Earth riding a rainbow. Her ambition is to become a voice actress; most of the time, however, something gets in her way - even an alien invasion! Along with the Aasu sisters, Poemi must protect the Earth, get the boy she obsesses over to notice her, and become a voice actress - all in just two episodes!

Story & Playability
"Kinda sorta debut!" Poemy Watanabe is a poor, young girl whose dream is to become a voice actress. Her daily
life changes when some weird alien kills Poemi's father and his (new?) wife. Poemy then moves in with her best
friend Futaba (who has a lot of sisters, btw). I don't think I'm spoiling anything big here since everything
happens within minutes.
Needless to say, this is a parody. Poemy of course has superpowers later on and her best friend does nothing but admires
Poemi for everything she says or does (CCS anyone?). The show is full of references to famous animes (mostly mahou no
shoujo or such series) and Puni Puni Poemy itself is a cliche big time. Superpowers, weird-coloured hair...that's
just like it should be!
The cover of Puni Puni Poemy says that if the audience is not insulted by this anime (after watching it I mean), then
they (=the production staff) haven't done their job. Well said (and you'll know why after you watch it!).

Graphics
The art is vibrant and too bright. The characters look nice but everything is copied or exaggerated. I can't give a
low score since this is a hard-core parody and thus there's nothing wrong with the art; it SHOULD look like this. I
haven't seen many anime like this so it's hard to compare how Puni Puni Poemy looks next to another
title...maybe Excel Saga is close enough? If I would use Excel Saga to compare the quality of Puni Puni Poemy's art
with, I'd say that Puni Puni Poemy is a clear winner.

Sound
The opening song is funny when it comes to lyrics and it makes you laugh when you watch it. But the music itself is
kinda second class... it's hard to come up with an amazing theme song for magical girl-like series, I know, but I
just don't like the style. Come to think of it, I can't remember any sound effects of bgm in particular... so
maybe it is fair to say that everything serves their purpose but is nothing great as a whole?
I was hoping something more hyper to be in the opening song. The ending has nothing good in it else except for the first
few seconds of it. Songs like these are too melancholic and slow-paced. Magical Project S has the kind of theme song
that you're not sure whether it's just a joke or not (a cute one, none the less), so something like that
would've given me more satisfaction.
The lousy grade of the music is higher than one would imagine. There's a perfect reason for that: Poemy's
seiyuu, Yumiko Kobayashi. SHE_IS_AMAZING!! So genki, hyper and able to change her voice fast. She is the reason why you
are able to watch joke after joke after joke after joke. Her voice is perfect for the part!

Fun
PuniPuni Poemy is an excellent parody. It makes fun of everything (including itself), jumps out of character and makes
jokes so fast it's hard to keep up. There are puns, typical jokes, inside-stuff, slapstick...you name it, PuniPuni
Poemy has it. Almost every time you watch the show you realize a new joke and when everything happens so fast, it feels
like you haven't seen everything just yet. It's a great and rare thing in anime.
There's no clear logic in this show, a dead fish used to transform pops almost out of nowhere and Poemy picks up
cheesy lines even though no one told her such things. So sometimes it's frustrating to see something illogical
happen...but then again, maybe you shouldn't think at all when watching this?
I'd recommend PuniPuni Poemy to everyone who claims to have a sense of humor; if you're not laughing after
watching this, you clearly don't know a thing about yourself!
