Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle tv,ova,manga Review

CLAMP's Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li are back, but they're not the same characters we've come to know from Cardcaptor Sakura. This time, our pair is from the magical country of Clow, where Sakura is the beloved princess and Syaoran is a commoner working as an archeologist. He's tasked with exploring the ruins of Clow, which seem to hold magical power. Our two characters are destined for each other, but many perils lay in their path.

When visiting the ruins, Sakura is mesmerized and drawn into a strange gateway on the wall. Evil forces are at work and try to steal her away to another dimension. Syaoran prevents her from going but, in the process, scatters her feathers (representing her memories) across multiple worlds. With Sakura unconscious, Syoaran must travel to each world and recover Sakura's memories. Upon visiting the dimensional witch, Syaoran is given two traveling companions, each with their own reasons for going on a journey between worlds. They are also given Mokona, a magical creature that allows them to communicate and travel between worlds.

Their journey begins here and many dangers await them on the road ahead.

Story & Playability

The characters in TRC are very similar to Cardcaptor Sakura, but with Sakura and Syaoran much older (probably teenagers). However, this time, Syaoran is the main character and Sakura seems more like the supporting character. Here, Sakura is Syaoran's childhood friend. She is more quiet and seems to sleep a lot in the series. But she is still cute as always. A new character named Kurogane is one of their companions. Kurogane is a swordsman that seems to carry with him a cool-type attitude, and Tomoyo is also in this series acting as the princess of Japan and Kurogane is one of her guards. Also, along with our travelers is Fai, the blond magician. He enjoys joking around especially about Kurogane along with Mokona! Mokona is similar to Kero (in CCS) in a sense that they both enjoy joking around and they're almost always in a happy mood. Mokona helps them travel to different worlds too. There is actually another Syaoran that will come into play later in the story, Clone vs. Real. That's right, when you think it can't get any better,eh This is good stuff, so I won't spoil it.

The story is actually pretty good, really intense actually if you read up to the latest volume of the manga. However, if not, the series is slow in developing the plot, but the overall message and story is pretty good though. I liked it even though it seems like forever for them to collect all the feathers. But,that's ok, the feathers are pretty. ;) The story is creative and pretty exciting with all the fighting and travelling through dimensions.

Graphics

Each scene is well designed with details like other Clamp's work. The artwork is beautiful. From hair and eyes to the body and shape of the characters are all well done. Everything flows smoothly. However, sometimes the characters appears to be too thin. Thus, it feels kinda strange, abnormal too. Too thin is just unrealistic especially the legs (eg. Sakura's legs/arms)

The style also matches since Tsubasa is a story about action, drama, and fantasy, I would expect high quality for an anime that emphasizes on fantasy. The colours are pretty too and match well. The clothing that the group changes when they arrive to a new world is pretty and creative. The artwrok overall is very beautfiul with high quality!

Sound

The voices of the characters are nice and fits them well unlike some other animes. (lalala) Well, I watched it in jap with english subs so it's all good. If it was actually dubbed, then it may not be as good. I like Syaoran and Sakura's voices. Sakura has a nice and soft voice while Syaoran is ...manly. XD! I also like Mokona's voice, it's really kawaii!

As for the songs (opening songs and ending) is actually pretty good for both seasons and the first ova. I actually liked the opening songs eg. Blaze by K. Kinya in the first season and It's by K. Kinya in second season. Background music fits well with the scenes more or less, thus, it is enjoyable.

Overall, the voice acting is excellent, and the songs are great. The dialogue flows well and pacing is not too bad.

Fun

It has everything that makes a good story: it has adventure, fantasy, romance and action. In the series (first season and second) there is some fighting but not as much. I'd prefer some more. But it is understandable since they want to balanced out the action, fantasy and romance. However, there is actually intense fighting in the manga in the latest volume 23, chapter 175-176. It's so good! There is also some comedy in the series with Fai and Mokona making jokes and fooling around with Kurogane. I especially enjoyed the episode with Mokona as an artist and the other 4 as chobits. So cute and funny. xD! At last, there is some romance of Sakura + Syaoran. Yeah!! They are my fave couple in anime. So cute and everything. They fit together so perfectly. Love them! Without them, the adventure would not have occured. The manga, however has a darker and more complex tones in the later chapters compare to the tv series and ova.

Overall, TRC is a wonderful story with charming characters!

Also recommend: CCS ( Cardcaptor Sakura)

    Crap the song.

The opening and ending were horribly mutilated.

Going back to the blasted anime... that blasted anime!

That blasted anime only showed CLAMP's wonderful art.

    Nothing more!

Your review seems extremely disjointed. You really need to take the time to work on your sentence structure. You use sentence fragments and put periods where commas or semicolons would suffice. When you do that, your review loses that good flow and thereby loses any impact you were trying to convey. Also, you need to be a bit more descriptive overall. You have something rating a '9' here and when I read a review with that kind of score, I expect to feel the writers entusiasm as to why. Nice first effort and stick with it. Hope to see more from you in the future.

Yeah, I guess now that I read it over a third time, it does sound a little sketchy. Thanks though!
