In the world of Claymore, humanity is being terrorized by "youma," beings who live for destruction. Worst of all, these beings can disguise themselves as humans.


But soon, hybrid warrior women - half youma, half human - appeared, to destroy the youma. These women were known as "Claymores," and their silver eyes can recognize a youma that is disguising itself as a human.

Story & Characters

Claymore does not strike me as an watch-able anime at first. But when more and more people are starting to talk about claymore, i gotta try it out for myself.

The story is great, with developments that is very steady, we find ourselves engrossed in a world of claymores. I think Clare and Raki are a good couple, may it be romantic or not. The part of Teresa is shocking, and the "SHOCKING" part is what makes me think highly of claymore. We seldom watch animes that are unpredictable and have twist we can never think of. Claymore is one that makes you can't predict what is going on next.

There are lots of parts that make you think more. Like why did Teresa have to die? Why did Priscilla do such a thing? Why did Teresa have to show mercy on Priscilla? We will feel sad for her, and this is the exact part that I'm looking for in a good anime, animes that will make you feel for them.

But!

I do have to agree i don't like the ending. It's way too rushed, and they divide Clare's awakening into 2 parts, WHICH makes me pissed off. And they make Priscilla FURTHER awaken, making her to become some kind of muscular girl that will puts me off.

Clare defeated Priscilla, and try to take revenge for Teresa. Next we saw Raki trying his very best to stop Clare. Saying killing will not solve anything. This doesn't works, and Jeane has to be the one to stop her. This is taken right out from the manga, but this still proves that the producers does not think much about having a different way of ending all this. They just decide to make use of the fight of Rigardo and Clare and lengten it to contains the fight with priscilla. This is a very lousy way of ending all the fun we have experienced and we definitely don't want such an ending. We wants more action, and more drama out of Claymore's ending.
And finally, Priscilla isn't that weak to let Clare win her. She could kill Clare in a second if she wants, but the producers decided to make Priscilla seems weaker then Easley. So be it, i have to accept the fate that the anime does not follow the manga.

Art

All is good for this section, though i wish for a more beautiful Clare, which is impossible. Judging from the way claymores fight, beauty is a waste upon them.

Background design suits very well with the story. We can see different landscapes from it, like Pieta which is full of snow. or the Central plains. All was well thought out and planned, making Claymore to be a awesome anime.

Another well thought out part of Claymore is that all symbols are similar. It all have a line that runs down from the start to the end.

Sound

Sound effects are great, but OP and ED are so-so.

The OP does explains the story, and it sings out Clare's emotions into going into battle. But i think the song itself does not suit being an OP of a fast-paced, action packed anime like Claymore.

The ED suits better if it is an OP, but as an ED, it have it's uses. It sang out the soft part of Clare, letting us know that she wants company, but fears it.

I think OPs and EDs of an anime should bring out the emotions of certain main characters, and make us know more deeply the characters of that character.

Presentation

A factor that lures people into watching Claymore is it's highly gruesome and action packed fighting scenes. The blood and wounds are what that turns us on, as we have been deprieved of that when Hellsing ends. It makes a nice change and i do hope for more bloodshed.

Concept for story is well brought across. We know much about Clare and we understands all the situation she and Raki is going through. That is what makes a good anime.

The main reason why Claymore is so popular is because of it's well balanced gore and action scenes. None are over-done, and none are under-done. It certainly make us hunger for more, and let us think what may happen next.
