Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED tv Review

Cosmic Era 71. A war is under way between genetically enhanced Coordinators and unmodified Naturals. The Natural-dominated Earth Alliance, struggling to catch up with the Coordinators' superior technology, has secretly developed its own Gundam mobile suits at a neutral space colony. Through a twist of fate, a young Coordinator named Kira Yamato becomes the pilot of the Alliance's prototype Strike Gundam, and finds himself forced to fight his own people in order to protect his friends.

Story & Characters

Just like the other of Gundam story, The story begin with the war between Earth and PLANT (the Colonies), the cause of this war is the jealousy of Natural people who live in Earth to Coordinator people who live in PLANT. Natural is just like us, normal people, but Coordinator is a people with special abilities, in short Coordinator is better than Natural in every aspect. The interesting part in Gundam Seed, the protagonist itself is a Coordinator, named Kira Yamato, so the whole story in Gundam Seed doestn't concern in the war only, but also explain about the term Coordinator itself, the characters, and of course the protagonist struggle as a Coordinator but fight along The Naturals, fighting PLANT, fighting his own side in order to protect his friends. The other interesting part is the fight between Kira and his childhood friends Athrun Zala who joined in PLANT army, named ZAFT, Kira meet Athrun when ZAFT attacked Heliopolis, the neutral colony where Kira lived. Kira have to fight back to protect his friends using GAT-X105 Strike Gundam and destroyed one of ZAFT's mecha. After the fights the things become more complicated and the story begin. In my opinion Gundam Seed story is similar with the story of Gundam 0079 : One Year War, but of course with different era and with more dramatic scenes, or maybe we can called, Gundam Seed : One Year War Reloaded ^_^. The storyline is good, not linear, there're a lot of fantastic scenes, and great fights.

Art

The art quality is great just like other Sunrise anime, there are mix between handdrawn and CG. Personally i think, sometimes the character art is weird, the mouth position is misplaced (i think) other than that everything is OK. The mecha art is wonderful, the poses, the material effect, the detail, everything is great, but in later chapter, too much mecha with the same moves and animation in different situation, well maybe Sunrise just too lazy to draw more animation frame ^_^. The SFX is cool, the beam effect, the nuclear blast effect, nothing wrong with it. The most interesting art for me is the CG art used on battleship named Archangel, Archangel first strike is in episode 3, the animation is awesome.

Sound

Gundam Seed dialoque is great, there are a lot of nice words that have deep meaning. When you decide to watch it, i suggest you to listen carefully what the character said. The background music is great and match with the situation, and sometime give more emotion at the current scene. The sound effect is good and detail. Finally, the Opening and Ending Theme, Gundam Seed is the first Gundam anime that have a lot of Opening and Ending theme, 4 Theme for the opening and 3 Theme for the Ending and suprisingly all of them is great (at least for me ^_^). The best Gundam Seed OST in my opinion is "Anna ni Isshou Datta No Ni" the first ending theme.

Presentation

To talk about the originality of the stolyline, Gundam Seed base storyline is similar with Gundam 0079 : One Year War, but Gundam Seed have something different from other Gundam story, just like i've said before Gundam Seed doesn't concern only in the war but also concern with the characters too. Gundam Seed clearly show the mental condition of the character and of course make the audience know how the character feel, how sad the character, how hurt the character and so on. The storyline is good too, in the beginning chapters the story tell about war between Earth and PLANT but in later chapters the term Coordinator begin to play a role and in near ending chapters something great happen and this is never happen in other gundam stories this is very ideal conclusion (want to know that conclusion, just watch it ^_^) and finally the term Coordinator is explained in near ending chapters. The fights in Gundam Seed is beautiful, there are a lot of cool moves from the Gundams, and other than that the fights is very dramatic and playing with audience emotion. One thing that disappoint me, the ending isn't too good, because the ending is too early, there are many things that still not clear for me. But still Mobile Suit Gundam Seed is the one of the best anime that i've ever seen and i suggest you to watch it, and hey if you agree with me about the ending just let me know...^_^ thanx you and sorry for my english.

I thought the CG looked somewhat cheap, but the 2D stuff was pretty good. I've seen several Gundam series but got bored halfway through Wing, so hopefully Seed will stay interesting. I really like what I've seen so far on the first 2 DVD's though.

Gundam seed for me was like what?????? I mean Kira the main characters cries for like 45% of the series and i saw it a few months ago so, 45% could be an understatement, the storyline was on track with the original Gundam Series (unlike Gundam Wing but that's off topic) so that was a plus. But i agree with nokfool the CG was cheap!!! I mean c'mon you can do better!! The love sqaure or triangle or what ever shape you want it to be was actually pretty good for a mecha anime, when I saw it I had no clue who loves who, i was all cleared up int eh beginning with teh movie so that was good. Overall though i would disagree with gundex's rating of 8.5 becasue it took the series about 50 episodes or so to develop into a good anime thats TOO long! Gundam 08th MS Team was great even though it was made in 1995 the storyline went with the original and it did it in about 13 episodes all with drama and action it was perfect. Gundam Seed took them too long to end the story, don't get me wrong when it was good it blew me away but the longitude of the series overshadows all teh series's good parts, i would have rated it at 6 or 6.5 myself but that's only my view on it.

hmm i thought the scoring was pretty fair. Gundam Seed caought my attention after the first episode. I love it how he makes a lot of things happen just in that first episode. It grabs the watcher's attention. unlike some of the other animes that i have seen.

this is kind of offtopic but, itsDchlorine, i love ur Yukikaze sig.

Gundam Seed, caught my eye just by the word Gundam alone. It's kind of funny because no other series could do that to me, always Gundam. The story is different in relative terms, but like gundex said, it remind me of Gundam 0079: The One Year War. In my opinion it's a lot better though. Kira seems like a crybaby at first, but he's a realistic character. Though a coordinator he's stiil just a kid who is not used to war. So crying is okay. Plus the story kind of continues in Gunadm Seed Destiny, which is currently being aired in a Japan. Chck out if you could.
