Outlaw Star tv Review

Story & Characters

Pretty simple, Gene Starwind and friend Jim Hawking own or run a repair shop, one day a woman asks for some strange parts and after they meet with her some mystereous assasins and the woman turns out to be an outlaw that Gene and Jim have to help. Later on the outlaw unlocks a case that has a girl inside, an android who is a key to the most important thing in the universe: the galactic layline. The layline is sought by many and leads Gene and Jim as well as some other people that they meet into several endeavors that attempt at least to get them closer to the layline, as well as stay financially afloat. The key thing to remember is the layline is an all powerful force and is considered to be a legend, that and Gene is the kind of guy who is always up for a get rich quick scheme, but not if it requires too much work or if it sounds too tedious, danger is never a problem however, he is qiute up to the challenge should it arrise, so Jim has to act as the voice of reason from time to time.

Art

Well, the art itself is less than impressive. But what is lost in art is made up for the action sequenses that are seen, which are usually fast, and beautifully made with workmanship seldom seen in todays action anime. So even though the vocal clips are a little drab, is all made worthwhile when a fight starts (ohhhh yeah!). The characters are each individuals and can probably be considered to be distinguished in a crowd, and the one of the things taken for granted is that Gene is human, and his scars prove that he is not some juggernaut that instantaneously heals the next episode (or at least he retains some damaged properties visually through the series). Each person is well made and the idea of ships with arms is well expressed through this animation, at first glance it seems a little strange, but after you see some of the battles and the action in the cockpit while this is all going on (the holographics that goes on and the computer screens are very well made) you will wonder why other shows dont do it.

Sound

The sound was overall great, but sci-fi anime has a tendancy to be good at original and never before heard sounds ( an 9-shell, ohhh yes). The voicing is what matters to me perhaps the most in many series. Gene's voice fits well, as well as his dialouge that is seldom heard, but it is very appropriate for this genre (Action, not Ecchi, but it is well rounded so, and with episode 23...). Jim sounds just as he appears-like a little kid, but it seems to suit him well so it works. Aisha- nails on a chalkboard, her english voice is atrocious, Japanese is rather good, but absolutely ghastly in english, it only fits her slightly in the respect that she is Ctarl Ctarl and is catlike, nothing more than that. The voice acting wasn't all that bad but like I said, and as it is with a lot of anime, one person ruins it for the whole production: Aisha.

Presentation

The presentasion was awesome. It is perhaps the most well rounded anime ever and offers something for everyone- action, humor, and sex appeal (I wont lie). This series should have been countinued as planned, but a poor OAV was made and hasn't been heard from since. But overall this anime was awesome and should be seen by anyone who enjoys any kind of action, or anyone who wants to see what motivates some people to become addicted to ainime is like. This was a very fun series and is a shame that few will be able to see something quite like this agian. I was acctually wondering if there was a continuation, but rumors and little else are all that I have heard.
