Story & Characters

Demons, school-girls, and perverted men...wait I've heard that somewhere before. Well this story does an alright job keeping it original. I mean, come on, a time-traveling school-girl who ends up in Feudal Era Japan. I haven't heard that one before. But unfortunately that wasn't enough to hook me to the series. A fight against a terrible demon to get the shards back to make a full jewel again? Well I'm not one into jewelry so that also wasn't enough to hook me. Finally, the interaction between five people, fighting for what they believe in, a monk who wants to get uncursed, a female demon slayer who wants her brother back, a half dog-demon who just wants to be respected and accepted amongst humans and demons, and...well I don't see any point in talking about Kagome. It took all that just to finally catch my eye to this series. But half of that, that was mentioned, doesn't occur until at least 10 episodes into the anime. That isn't good at all. The comradery amongst the five individuals (I didn't bother mentioning Shippo earlier) is great and well played in this story and some of the villains are perfect, but for this story to be better, all the characters needed to be the best. Not to mention half the filler plots sucked, to put it frankly. I was quite disappointed with them. The love story between Inuyasha and Kagome, really doesn't go anywhere. I felt cheated. Unless if you watch the movies alongside the episodes, you won’t really see any big leaps in their relationship. The other relationship that I felt was better was Miroku and Sango. They actually proceeded with their love and really planned a future after the battle was over. In the end, I'm really disappointed. Out of 167 episodes and it still doesn't end.

Art

The style is pretty good, and I think its one of the saving graces of this anime. The fight scenes were well drawn out so I could actually feel the intensity of each wind tunnel or wind scar. This style is semi-hard to mimic which is good because it makes it unique (trust me I tried mimicking it). Overall it was a good choice to use for an anime such as this and its probably one of the only reasons why I would watch even one episodes again.

Sound

Music was the other attribute that saved this series. Artists like Hitomi, BoA, and Do As Infinity supplied their beautiful singing voices to the openings and endings of the anime. Even after the second season being long over I still listen to "Fukai Mori ~Deep Forest~" over and over again. I just can't get enough of it. The image songs were another fantastic addition to the music. It really brought out the tender moments, or the intense heated moments when needed. I really enjoyed it all. The dubbed version (which I watched for most of the series) introduced some talented voices like Richard Cox (who played Inuyasha). Again despite the bad rap that the dubbed voices get, I still rather watch this series in english and I recommend anyone to watch it in english as well as in japanese.

Presentation

Overall the presentation of the series wasn't all that great. Come on now, 167 episodes and it STILL doesn't end. It was bad enough that it was 167 episodes. Not to mention that half of those episodes were fillers. It was horrible. I couldn't stand watching them, especially the ones about Shippo. He was the most annoying of all. The morals and values, though, were clearly stated so I wasn't confused at all, one point for this series. The humor really didn't get old for me because I enjoyed seeing Miroku get smacked or Inuyasha being told to sit. It was enjoyable because they still managed to find unique ways to pull it off.Hats off to the writer(s). Another point to the anime...oh my god that makes 2. Heh anyway overall the series had a lot of weak points and could've easily been trimmed down to under 70 episodes. Better luck next time.

lol, you took the words right out of my mouth, though I still think that it is overrated and doesn't deserve the score you've given it.

lol yeah sometimes I feel I given it a better score than it should've gotten but the Music and Art, as I said was the saving grace of this anime. So in the end thats what kept it an above average anime.

Ah, I don't feel that it should have even been "above average". I don't think the art was really that great--at least, not when you compare it with anime that really does have good art, like Witch Hunter Robin, Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, etc. The animation was sort of choppy and the art style was simple. And I would have probably only given the plot a 4.5. But that's just me. -_-

The one thing I do agree with you on, though, is the music, which I thought was really quite good--I don't know if it deserves a 9, though. Maybe more like an 8.

Out of all the choices, I like the music the best. If I had to choose something else, yes it would be the art.
