fushigi ISH theeee BEST anime ever! .. hehe ^.^
Fushigi Yuugi tv Review
Miaka is like any ordinary schoolgirl. She loves to dream, eat and enjoy her life rather than concentrate on her studies. She doesn't mind the fact her mother wishes for her to resemble her intelligent best friend, Yui, and life seems pretty normal.
Things change when they both enter the forbidden section of the local library, and consequently fall into a book. The two girls find themselves in a place that resemble ancient China, where they meet their first love, Tamahome, and get caught up in a jealous love triangle. Miaka and Yui are no longer best friends and become enemies due to several misunderstandings, and are recruited as Priestesses for the Suzaku and Seiryuu Constellations in order to summon their Sacred God (in the form of a giant beast).
The complicated battles between the Seiryuu and Suzaku end up in a fatal battle and race against time, involving the past and the present, where it is decided by fate. Fushigi Yuugi draws viewers into the fantastic realms of the imagination, love and friendship, to inform everyone of their importance in daily lives.

Story & Characters
Fushigi Yuugi is the story of Miyaka, a girl who is sucked into the world of "The Four Gods". She is to play the role of the Priestess of Suzaku in the book. According to legend, the Priestess of Suzaku would come from a foreign land and find the “Suzaku Seven, and summon the God, Suzaku. Now, on the exterior, Fushigi Yuugi looks like another Dragon Ball/Z/GT. The storyline is driven by the need to collect the 7 chosen people to bring about 3 wishes to stop evil and other bad things from happening in the lands. It is correct to assume that this storyline is driven in a similar way to DBZ (what is with the collect 7 to get wishes anyway?). However, the plot has a few mini-plots that run simultaneously with the main plot, that have roots in character development and character relationships. Other than the collecting aspect, the storyline is pretty original. The idea of collecting for three wishes has been around for a while, but the character development and relationships make this a much deeper anime.

Art
The quality of art, I think, was good for its time (I was watching Ayashi no Ceras as well, and I believe they had similiar art quality, so I'm assuming that its was all like that when it came out). However, the art is nothing special compaired to now. The artwork is a bit granular and the colors are very darkish in shade. However, the anime keeps a darkish mood throughout most of it, so it could be a thematic effect. Now, what had really bugged me about the art was that the characters would often begin talking to each other, but their mouths do not move. It happens quite often. I don't know if they are having internal duologues or what, but I found it odd.

Sound
Now, the Fushigi Yuugi soundtrack was nothing special. Standard bad mood music when bad things happen, and upbeat music when something happy or good happens. The Opening Theme starts out pretty interesting. It begins exotic...like Indian or Arabic? But soon, it goes into jpop mode right in the middle, and everything seems odd. The Ending Theme seems to be the only saving grace, but barely. It is decent, at best.
The voices of the Japanese version are pretty well done. However, as I had said in art, the say things, but their mouths aren't moving. Along with that, I found Miyaka's voice quite annoying, in both subtitled and dubbed. In fact, the dubbed Miyaka was so horrible, I couldn't bear to watch it further than the first few minutes. The subbed Miyaka is still tolerable. However, the VA does use a better voice for Miyaka during some portions, so I guess it was to highlight Miyaka's immaturity (still annoying though). Everyone else had very good Jap VAs.

Presentation
Now, Fushigi Yuugi was a decent anime. It was quite well done. However, there were a few problems with it. First, the theme of "I need to break up with you because I have to/ordered to, etc" was way overdone. It was good and fresh the first time. The second time, its okay. The third time is tolerable. Seriously. Also, it was for the same pair. The last 40 episodes were basically them breaking up and getting back together over and over again while the plot slowly crawls forward. The show was dragged much to far, farther than it should have gone. If they had cut out more of the unsatisfied love and shortened the series a bit, it would have been better. Also, the ending leaves the viewer...disappointed. They tie up all the plotlines by the end, but they go for the last shot throw some crazy thing in to make it a total happy ending. I found it disappointing that they stooped so low as to do so. All in all, the plot was solid, and the storyline flowed well enough. Only a few flaws places this anime lower on the ratings.

Fushigi Yuugi was not *the* best series in my opinion, but I did enjoy many of the moments, especially when it came to Hotohori. He is my favorite character. :D The character images songs were good, too.

Fushigi Yugi was a good anime, can be funny at times or very touching. I cried a few times when watching it.

This was my first Watase story. yes...miaka's voice actress (araki kae) got very annoying very fast. The dubbed voices were very hard to listen to because I kept on laughing whenever they'd speak.... XD

so the anime wasn't as bad as i had heard. I did think they dragged out the relationship a little but all in all it was okay. I've never seen the anime though i will buy it one day. I loved the manga though. I wonder if the manga wouldn've gotten a better reveiw?...
