Story & Playability
Before I begin I must warn all readers this game is rated Mature, not suitable for children or people who don't like blood. I made this review for the US release game, thus I do not know if there are changes in the other releases.
This game I must say its one of my favorites, it completely changes the way you look at action games.
Kratos is a muscular, pale-skinned, heavily tattooed Spartan warrior. As you play the game you start to uncover the dark secret that this Spartan Warrior hides deep in his mind. He gave the ultimate sacrifice to be the best warrior of them all, (his life) thus he calls upon the God of War: Aries. Aries grants his wish to Kratos, giving him the Blades of Chaos, these swords are both are bonded to his arms by chains; they make him the greatest warrior, but with such power comes a lost. Kratos lost the only two things that made him human, his wife and daughter.
He cant find relief in wine nor women, and wants Athena to help him get rid of his past, Athena makes a deal that she will forgive his past if he kills Aries,(since the gods cant fight amongst them) who is destroying Athena's city of Athens, with the only weapon capable being Pandora’s box. Since it is not an easy task. The gods help him by lending their powers, from the ultimate God in the Greek Mythology Zeus, who grants him the power to toss bolts of electricity; Hades lets you unleash the souls of the underworld; and Artemis actually provides you with a huge sword that she used to slay a titan, Poseidon power over storms.
You get toss to the depths of the Underworld; you get to unravel the great power
of Pandora's Box. This game gives the player what I think is the first and best
way someone could ever bring you Greek Mythology at
it’s best and a great gaming experience.

Graphics
This game truly brings the finest PS2 graphics I've ever seen, the textures are
amazing, the characters faces, their hair, the monster you battle are
incredible.
When you play this game you can go to the smallest details like the mole on the
oracle's face, everything I found gave me more urge to continue to play.
I first was blown away when I played the demo, were you can play the first part of this game, it was amazing!!
I truly can't wait to play the second game that it's going to come out for the Playstation 2 next February, with a similar addictive story.
Overall, I personally think that the God of War graphics for this console (PS2)
are awesome; the bosses you fight with are just amazing, (five times Kratos
size), things that no one has thought of before. You can see the blood spilling
from the monsters, the blood on the innocent victims; I truly love how it
looks.

Sound
Music; one of the things I loved about this game. The music sounds like a real orchestra, but must of the music was created virtually (sans real orchestra and choir in favor of electronic manipulation), but all but the most trained of ears would be hard-pressed to distinguish between what is real and what is virtual.
Composed by Gerard Marino, Mike Reagan, Ron Fish, and Winifred Phillips, the music that runs throughout the duration of the game makes an intensive atmosphere that goes great with the trials, and blood drenched adventures of Kratos.
The music in this game truly reminds me or makes me imagine of the Greek culture, and makes me want to listen to the music over and over again.
The music goes beautifully with the game play.

Fun
Fun; the fun you can have on this game is not that like of other games, that once you passed the game is pretty much the same.
In this game you have the difficulty level; Mortal (easy), Hero (normal), Spartan (hard), God (very hard). When you play this difficulty level, you can really feel the way difference; the weak monsters now are really hard to defeat, more monster arrives, etc...
Also as you keep the progress on the game you unlock some Additional Customs that are really funny; Chef of War- makes Kratos look like a chef, Bubbles- makes Kratos look like a Scuba diver, Tycoonius- makes Kratos look like a Business man, Dairy Bastard- makes Kratos look like a cow (my fav) and the final additional custom is Ares Armor- that makes Kratos look like the God of War {Aries}
Plus the weapons you keep upgrading and getting are really cool, like the power to unleash the souls of the underworld power granted by Hades. And the areas you go in are real well made.
Overall, I love this game, I advice you to play this game if you like violence, blood and all action themes. This game is one of the best released games from the PS2 console…

Hey, that sounds cool.
I
don't like blood but I can handle it...I think. Good for your first review too.
Wow lunagata!
This is a pretty good review!
I like it!
Um, I dunno if I can write a good review like this.
But hey, I'll try.
Well, great job on your 1st review! ^-^
The game was so cool! Also, this review is great even if it's your first! I loved the might of Hercules move. The fight with the first hydra boss was so awesome!
I truly love this game only got it yesterday I know I'm late!
ops:
Nice review! Very good descriptions, I learned something from it I did not know you could summon Hades hordes nice!
Anyway I'm in Athens somewhere and the game just gets better and better!
The Hydra boss was totally awesome! Loved it, it was freaking huge and the music was so surreal it made me feel like I was actually Kratos!
Again nice review! Thumbs up!
Good Review! Yeah, the game is very good! again i have to say you made that a really good Review.
Luna-chan, great review! I didn't know you like bloody action games
This game sounds really cool, you make me wanna play it, but i can't cause i dont have a PS2
very good game... played with my ex and it was amazing :P
great game! my mum's bf has it
I try
to play it whenever I go over there
Cool game. btw,Lunagata, are you a girl? I hardly seen any girl playing this game
A 9 overall score seems fair enough, although this game was bordering so close to perfection it almost seems wrong to only score it a 9. If Resident Evil 4 hadn't made it's way out in the same year, this would have easily been game of the year. Put down your XBOX controllers and stop your battling of the covenant for a while you HALO kiddies... put a PS2 controller in your hands and take control of the super badass known as Kratos... you'll thank all of us later.
I think anyone who enjoys any sort of videogames must try god of war, there is no word to describe it, tell you really try it, saying how great it is, is nothing compared to actually playing it
yup i finish it so great the batteles .and i love ares cuz u'll fight him and kill him and become the new god of war an i just cant wait to apear god of war 2
I was so choked I didn't do the mini sex game...if you get into the room with the two topless girls make sure you jump onto the bed
i haven't had time to play through the game again to try it out...ack
The game's replay value isn't too great though. It was fun for the first two playthroughs, but there's not much to unlock. The only real part I enjoyed in GOW was the Hydra battle. Overall, it was okay.
Im glad you guys like it! My Cousin worked on both God of War and God of War II, he was a sound programmer for the first, and a level designer for the second!
I played god of war and kinda got adicted. Turely brings the fine graphics of PS2. Nice review. Keep up wit the good work.
nice review u forgot the minifatality feature you use to kill enemies
