Hellsing

Hellsing tv Review

Unbeknown to the masses, vampires do exist; as a precautionary measure, certain groups have been created to keep them (and their creations) under control. In the United Kingdom, the group is the Hellsing family, with Integra Hellsing as the leader.

One night, a squad is sent out to a village to solve the mystery of the increasing number of disappearances among the locals. Victoria Seras, a rookie police officer ridiculed by her comrades, is bent on proving she can handle the mission, but soon discovers they all have been overwhelmed by the vampire and his slaves. During the fight that ensues appears Alucard, a mysterious man who kills the vampire and severely injures Victoria in the process. On the verge of death, she accepts to be turned into a vampire by him, accepting him as her master.

On their way back to Alucard's group, she discovers the truth about the Hellsing Organization and accepts to fight alongside them. The story is mostly told from her point of view and shows her relationships with the other characters and the hardships she encounters while trying to get used to her new lifestyle.

Story & Characters

Hellsing is the name of an organization that exists to serve and protect the innocent from creatures of the night. What are these creatures? pretty much anything Undead. This ranges from powerful Vampires to their army of Ghouls to the simple henchmen working for them. They technically don’t exist because the people of the public don’t know about them. This is for their protection and safety.

The Hellsing Organization is made up of many people. From Grunts to Officers to a very mysterious Vampire named Alucard, Hellsing is a small, but powerful army. They have weapon designers that create some very high-tech gadgets, too. The Leader of this group is Sir Integra Wingates Hellsing. She is the daughter to the original Leader of Hellsing. She does all the commanding and decision making in the organization.

The series focuses some of Integra, but it’s really about Seras Victora. She was a young “police girl” that made the decision to become a Vampire under Alucard. The story of Hellsing mainly focuses on Seras’ tale. It documents her struggles as a new Vampire and the difficulty she has conforming to its standards. Such as drinking blood, avoiding daylight and using her amazing abilities to her advantage. The second half of the series she is able to utilizes her powers as a Vampire, like the great strength she posses.

Another interesting character and perhaps the fan favorite is Alucard. He is easily the most powerful member of the Hellsing Organization.Noted to be over 550 years old, Alucard serves Sir Integra. The reason behind his loyalty is shown later on in the season. There bond is great and very powerful.

Art

The art design is very similar to Cowboy Bebop, but it also looks totally different at the same time. The characters themselves look great. They are all packed with detail, and look very realistic. As for everything else, it is also great. There are many computerized effects, but nothing that stands out or looks out of place. One thing that makes the artwork so unique is the coloring used. There are no bright colors in this anime. Most of the coloring consists of reds, black, grays, and many other dull colors. If there's any way to explain most of the art, it is "abstract". Once again, this is not at all a bad thing.

Hellsing effortlessly mixes the eerie atmosphere of classic horror movies with a 21st-century military feel. Hellsing head Integra and her servant Walter look straight out of an old Hammer Horror Picture, while Victoria's SWAT team uniform has a much more modern feel, with Alucard's improbably cool design falling somewhere in the middle.

The series has some truly epic and amazing fight scenes. The animation is very fluid and dynamic. After watching the entire series I’m sure that you’ll have a favorite fight. Some are done on a smaller scale, as a small, one room fight. Others may take place outside and cover a lot of ground. All the fights are different and will please any anime fans cravings.

Sound

The music in Hellsing is a mix between jazz, gothic music, a little rock, and abstract. It's a great package, and fits well with the overall theme of the anime. All the songs are great, but not really the type of stuff that most could listen to alone. Still, it's all good stuff.

As for the Japanese voice acting, all is top-notch. Alucard sounds perfect, as well as all of the other characters. As for the English voice acting, that's another story. Alucard sounds too much like some normal, everyday guy. Meanwhile, they tried to give some cultural diversity to certain characters. This just made them sound ridiculous and not at all realistic.

Presentation

Overall, Hellsing is the best anime of its kind out there. With some of the coolest characters ever, great music, great art, and an outstanding plot, it is one of the best animes on the market. If you like shows with vampires and/or the undead, buy this. If you like great action scenes and lots of blood and violence.

For those with an affinity for gothic horror and dark, intense drama, Hellsing is an absolute can’t-miss series.

The review was certainly to the point, but I only have one minor suggestion. You made a point to explain your scores for the last three categories, but the plot part, you left out to dry. You had a good plot synopsis, but no real indication as to why you gave it a 7. Nothing huge, just an idea.

As for seeing the show itself, I get conflicting reports on it. Some love it and others hate it, and it just doesn't seem like my kind of show. I may come across it one day, but no big deal if I don't.

Me being a Hellsing fan and owning the series I will give it a 9. Now the English voice actors seem to fit the characters very well, especially Alucard. This review has some interesting point of views but you technically don't have to be extremely into gothic to appreciate Hellsing. If you enjoy the story and have a opened mind then any type of genre will be perfect for you.

i really think this is a good review...but I don't think ALL of the characters sound ridiculous in the English anime (I mean, integra sounds like how I thought she would.)

Hey ! ! ! I think is one the best anime series I've seen. I think 8.3 is doesn't show how good the series is.

Maybe a little bit higher (9) would show how good it is.

    Besides... the music is great.

I agree Hellsing is one of the greatest anime ever created. So I think 9 or higher suites the anime.................

other than errors with the keyboard, I have to admit this is a nice review. couldn't have stated it better, it's an older review, but it's still well structured all the same. this is one of those anime, that if you're into gothic, dark and the likes then it's a must see. Alucard is the best of the best amongst the vampires.
