Ragnarok Online

Ragnarok Online tv Review

Ragnarok Online is a popular Korean MMORPG based on the manhwa Ragnarok: Into the Abyss.
The game was first released in 2002, and Ragnarok Online 2 was released in 2012.

It has many spin-offs, including the anime Ragnarok the Animation.

Story & Characters

This review is actually about the anime series Ragnarok the Animation. But this series are derived from the Ragnarok Online game, so you'll see many familiar faces if you watch these episodes. Besides, considering there ain't an option on that in the drop-down menu, this will do, haha... Let's head straight to the story shall we?

Many young adventurers journey across the changing Rune Midgard Kingdom.

Yuufa, who has said her goodbyes to her brother Orki's grave, and Roan, a childhood friend, encounter many people on their fight against the shadows that loom over the kingdom. The two are oblivious to the fate that approaches them. Will they grow stronger on their journeys? And will Roan's feelings for Yuufa take their relationship to a higher level?

Yuufa and Roan meet many unique people on their journey. Maaya, the merchant who is traveling with her Poring "Poipoi". Judia, an excellent hunter who likes fortune telling. Takius, a mysterious mage who is always wearing a blindfold. These encounters with others only adds to the variety of their story. What fate awaits the young adventurers?

Art

The character design and environment in this series are outstanding, although it's just like any other anime series. The character designs in the series, for example, shows a deeper and more detailed view of how the various characters in the RO game looks like, magnificent yet simplistic. About the environment and the worlds that these adventurers travel through are indeed also very well-done and very breathtaking, yet very simplistic as well.

Even though the story in this anime might seem sad and tragic, it also defines love and humour... alot of love and humour, haha... but anyway, throughout the whole series, there ain't a single episode where emotions and feelings aren't involved. So even though the visual perspective might compensate for the beautiful environment and worlds, you'll need something to wipe your tears with. Art, story and emotions, accumulated in one anime, isn't that great now yeah?

Sound

About the sound, well... how can i describe this? I watched the subbed version of Ragnarok the Animation, and i found it to be some kind of earcandy. There's nothing left out when it comes to sound effects, noises, music and whatsoever, because you'll constantly hear something, be it enemies, townspeople, the birds... whatever that can generate sound.

You can even hear the sound from the slightest sigh to the faintest whisper... these are important elements and factors that keeps the mood up and makes you wanna see the next episode again and again. And when it comes to the intro music and background music, it is somehow animeish, but nothing i would be listening to over and over, although i can say that it's pretty good. The bgm's adds up for the action and tells most of the story, be it a battle, a silent time... or even some hilarious moment, the bgm will always shift and make the anime seem hardcore.

Also... i'll have to raise my thumb for the poring "Poipoi", this thing makes the cutest and funniest expressions and noises ever, haha... and all it says is "Poring!!"

Presentation

As i wrote before, Ragnarok the Animation got it's roots from the Ragnarok Online game, and the game itself got it's roots from the Ragnarok manga series, so it's all some kind of good circle, haha... But still, I believe that Ragnarok lacks the sense of mythology it's supposed to have. So originality's pretty low, yet everything looks realistic, but still surrealistic. Despite the lack of those factors, i find Ragnarok the Animation to be one of the greatest anime's i've ever seen so far. It made me shed a few tears, but also laugh alot... haha...

Well, the anime itself contains 50% humour, so you can be sure you'll always get a good laugh from it. The expressions, sounds and visual perspective adds up to it alot. So to put it all in an overall summary, I can say that Ragnarok the Animation is definately worth watching. And also, even though i share my detestation to movies and series with too happy endings or too much sadness, i must say that Ragnarok the Animation sure deserves it's ratings.

Please bewarned if you'll be watching the anime, always keep a few tissues next to ya, you'll either shed a tear of joy or a tear of sorrow, haha...

Have a nice day.
Yours truly, Xaladin

hahaha.... nah man, i know that there will be a time for me when i realise that i've overrated it, but that time is not now ^_^ ...i love the series, but sure, they maybe could've decreased the use of spells, because in almost every episode, they either used Holy Cross, Sonic Blow or some overused skill and what not.... haha =]

but thanks for your comments ya'll, appreciate it =]

I don't understand why people have to make so much ecchi and hentai about such a cool game/anime/manga.

I think they should make a sequal to it. Adding the third jobs and stuff.

ragnarok is an okay game but I just love the style of art
    I still prefer 2D over 3D

I love the game, it´s so fun when you play with your friends, and you can meet a lot of people as well. Too bad I have only watch the first 10 episodes of the animation. I´m wonder what second job will each character choose OX
